Beaches Beijing

Find the best beaches in Beijing

Beijing is not a coastal city and the Chinese in general do not appreciate water sports and beach-going the way that Westerners do. Furthermore, pollution in the East China Sea makes it an unsavory place for swimming. However, the coastal town of Qingdao is a few hours’ train ride from Beijing and offers one of the most scenic bays with a downtown skyline that you’ll find in China. There are also a few sandy swimming beaches here, so if you dare to try the tepid East China Sea, this would be the closest thing to a Beijing beach on offer.

Alternately, Beijing is home to a number of lakes, including at the Summer Palace, as well as Houhai Lake in the northeast part of the city, where one can partake in gentle boating or calming walks along the lake shores.
